First you need to know that rig work is not for everyone, it can be very mentally demanding and you need to be in good physical shape. The work can be hard and the hours long and you are commonly required to work 14 days straight and 21 day off.
Despite the long shifts and hard work there are many ups when it comes to working on an oil rig. Many employees despite living in the middle of the ocean find themselves in accommodation that meets 4-5 star hotel standards with the company providing all travel, laundry, board and food expenses. Entry level positions usually pay from US$50,000 – US$70,000 per annum.
The experience on an oil rig is something you will remember for the rest of your life, you get to work in areas of the world that many people will never get to see and experience while forming some very strong friendships that can last a life time.
