Virtual Assistant Training – What You Need to Know
Posted by Jan Harris in Jobs and CareersIf you would like to become a Virtual Assistant, yet are not sure if you have the needed skills or proficiency level required to handle your own business, you may just need a little virtual assistant training. Be aware that anyone can create a website and sell a training program to new or aspiring virtual assistants, but that doesn’t mean their training is any good. However, there are some outstanding virtual assistant training programs available today for virtual assistants. The way we do business is changing rapidly and even experienced VAs can benefit from virtual assistant training. These courses have been created by seasoned professionals and are specifically designed to give the virtual assistant the skills and business knowledge to run his/her own home based business. Administrative professionals with many years of experience may not believe additional virtual assistant training is necessary, or may be reluctant to put more time and money into further training.
While it’s a personal decision whether or not to get additional training or certification, many VAs find it worth the investment. Many VAs can credit their success to outstanding virtual assistant training, others have become quite successful without it.
Before committing to a virtual assistant training program, ask yourself these questions
Do you have the skills you need to provide services on your own? There won’t be any coworkers to help you if you have a question. As an employee, you may be able to learn on the job; however, as an independent contractor your clients will expect you to be extremely proficient in the skills you are advertising.
Are your skills proficient enough for you to work quickly and efficiently while not sacrificing quality without some virtual assistant training? Your clients will not appreciate being charged for more time than would be necessary with a more efficient virtual assistant. With your current knowledge of the Internet and communication technologies, are you capable of running a home based virtual assistant business?
You will need to have the equipment and ability to communicate with your clients which may be located anywhere in the world. A virtual assistant needs to grasp more than just email. How else will you communicate with your clients? Is your home office equipped with a dedicated phone line or Internet phone services (VoIP)?
Do you have specialty skills you can offer to expand your business? There are in-demand services such as web designing, Internet marketing and bookkeeping that are excellent services you may want to provide. . Anyone with prior experience or certification in the real estate, legal or medical industry can always find clients who need their services. Another highly sought after skill is online marketing and website promotion.
Do you know how to run and promote your own business? Owning your own business means you must be able to handle your own taxes, accounting/bookkeeping, website maintenance and promotion, as well as processing payments. You’ll need to promote your business and services to potential clients.
If you are lacking in any of these skills, you may want to consider a reputable Virtual Assistant Training program. Even with years of experience in your career, there are new skills you will need to in order to manage a successful home based business.
Keep in mind the Internet is a very dynamic medium and change is quick and constant. All business owners in every industry can benefit from some additional training at some point. The virtual assistants with the most success are those who keep their skills fresh. Virtual assistant training may be just what you need to get started or to obtain new skills for expanding your existing business.
